Accessibility

We have made every effort to make this website accessible and easy to use for everyone, no matter what browser you choose to use, and whether or not you have any disabilities.

Browser settings

The text size of the new branded pages is resizeable; select View / Text Size in the browser to change its size.

Alternatively, you can over-ride the default font and screen colours by following the instructions below.

  • In your Internet Explorer window, select Tools then Internet Options from the menu bar at the top of the screen.  Select the Accessibility button at the bottom right of the dialogue box.
  • To change the default font sizes, check the third box - 'Ignore font sizes' - and click on OK, then OK again to exit the Internet Options window.  You can then use the Ctrl key mouse wheel together to increase the font size
  • To change the default colours, check the first tick box and click on OK to exit the Accessibility window.  If you have not already done so, you will need to specify your preferred text / background colour scheme as set out below.
  • Select the colours button to un-check the 'Use Windows colors' tick box which will activate the greyed out Text and Background buttons.  Select your preferred text and background colours.

 

Access keys and how to use them

Unfortunately,different browsers use access keys in different ways.  In general youneed to hold down a key or two, and then press the access key you want.

Browsers for PCs

  • Firefox 2 & 3: Hold down the SHIFT key and the ALT key and then press the number of the access key
  • Opera 9: Hold SHIFT and the ESC key and the list of access keys will appear.
  • Internet Explorer 6, 7 & 8 : Hold down the ALT key, press the number of the access key, release both keys then press ENTER

Browsers for Macs

  • Safari 4: Hold down the CTRL key and the OPTION key and press the number of the access key
  • Safari 3: Hold down the CTRL key and press the number of the access key
  • Firefox 2: Hold down the SHIFT key and the ALT key and then press the number of the access key
  • Opera 9: Hold SHIFT and the ESC key and the list of access keys will appear.
