Independent Panel Members – Refresher (ML0016)

Suitable for:

Independent Panel Members, within BIS, who wish to refresh their knowledge and understanding of the IPM's role and responsibilities, especially since the changes made in February 2010.  The course might also be suitable for recruiters who have substantial experience of competency-based recruiting in other organisations (attendance in this case to be agreed with the BIS Resourcing Team).

To be eligible to attend this course you must:

  • be EO or above;
  • have completed one of the recruiting manager's courses to ensure you have an understanding of the BIS internal recruitment policy;
  • if your experience is from outside BIS, have established your competence and the currency of that competence with the BIS Resourcing Team.

Course Objectives:

By the end of this event you will have refreshed your knowledge on:

  • the enhanced role and responsibilities of the IPM
  • the importance and practicalities of embedding equality of opportunity and diversity within the process;
  • challenging and giving feedback to Recruiting Managers.

There will also be an opportunity on the event to share your IPM experiences, to practise some of the challenge skills potentially required of the IPM during the interview stage, and to discuss the impact of the interview panel dynamics.

Length:

This is a 3 hour event (am 10.00-13.00 or pm 13.30-16.30)

Cost:

Nil for BIS staff
For all other delegates, including UKTI, Agencies and OGDs the cost is £59

Precourse/post course work:

Participants should be familiar with the BIS internal recruitment policy, in general, as this event will only be focusing on the IPM role and responsibilities within that.

Dates/location:

Please email Learningand.Development@bis.gsi.gov.uk if you would like to register your interest in attending this course when it next runs.

This event can be run outside London if there is sufficient demand.
