Suitable For:
Independent Panel Members (IPMs) play an integral part in the Department's internal advertising and vacancy management procedures.
To be eligible to become an IPM and attend the course, you must:
- be EO or above;
- have attended the Managing Vacancies course (tbc)
- have relevant interviewing experience.
Course Objectives:
By the end of this event, you will be able to:
- assess the content of advertisements against Departmental criteria and advise Line Managers of good practice;
- advise recruiting Line Managers on wider issues;
- identify the developmental opportunities of posts;
- contribute to and agree decision making processes;
- participate effectively as a panel member;
- identify and address inappropriate behaviour by panellists;
- evaluate performance and facilitate feedback for unsuccessful and successful candidates;
- evaluate your own - and the panel's - performance against the Departmental guidelines and procedures.
This is a highly participative event designed to build on your knowledge and experience of the department's vacancy management system. You will participate in focused simulations with role-play specialists aimed at helping you develop and use your interpersonal skills to influence others and to negotiate and formulate clear and effective feedback for candidates and other panellists.

This is a one and a half day event
Cost:
Nil for BIS staff
For all other delegates, including UKTI, Agencies and OGDs the cost is £310
Precourse/post course work:
It is important that you have your line manager's agreement before putting yourself forward for this event.
